Continuing Education

We at the Center for Church Leadership recognize the importance of serving the needs of the Presbyterian Church.  We seek a symbiotic relationship in which the College helps to educate church leadership, and Presbyterians provide financial support to sustain programs that benefit the church and the college. The CCL’s Continuing Education programs will seek to serve the needs of ordained and lay leaders by a) providing a means of continuing education for regional pastors, especially those of small- to medium-sized congregations; and b) to help equip lay leaders through training and education to strengthen the life and ministry of the local church.

Church communities play the crucial role in the sustaining of Christian faith and life.  Concerns about the quality of today's church leadership, both pastoral and lay, in mainline church bodies are widespread.  In congregations around the country, quality stewards from the next generation are not replacing aging church leaders.  Certainly there is much good news to balance out these concerns, but trends are not encouraging.  We believe church-related liberal arts colleges such as Hanover can address these problems in meaningful ways. We believe our PTEV* project has already begun the process and that our STEV* project can continue and enhance it.

We expect our Continuing Education offerings will begin small and grow as we gain experience and better understand the needs of the constituency we seek to serve. We have excellent facilities and personnel who can provide a wide range of workshops, symposia, conferences, and retreats.  During the academic year, we can accommodate weekend programs.  During the summer, we can accommodate residential programs for longer periods of time.  Our campus facilities and geographic location make Hanover an attractive place for participants and their families.
